The colloquial name for someone who is trained to find a witch is "eggtooth;" the plural, "falconers." The Saint family has specialized in this sort of hunt for thirteen generations, and as witches grow rarer, it's a talent that's become more and more valuable. The magic a witch possesses is largely thought to be divine, thus their more common name (as popularized in the East): "birds of paradise." The nature of a witch's life is largely dictated by how she is first found. A bird of paradise who is found by an eggtooth will be a commodity her whole life, sold to the highest bidder. A witch who takes control of her own abilities can achieve considerable status in society. The latter path is highly rare considering the obstacles, but not unheard of. |
